Ben Carson, the United States Secretary for Housing and Urban Development, has tested positive for COVID-19, AP reports.

The 69-year-old is the latest attendee of President Donald Trump campaign's election night watch party to contract the virus.

Carson's deputy chief of staff Coalter Baker said Carson "is in good spirits" and "feels fortunate to have access to effective therapeutics which aid and markedly speed his recovery."

Another attendee of the president's watch party, his chief of staff Mark Meadows, also contracted the virus.

The U.S. had by Monday registered close to 10 million COVID-19 infections and over 237,000 deaths, making it the hardest-hit country by the pandemic.
