Two terrorist leaders were arrested on Wednesday in the Libyan city of Misrata, some 200 km east of the capital Tripoli, according to a security source.

The counter-terrorism force of Misrata said the two were arrested after a complex security operation that lasted for weeks.

"The force coordinated with a number of security and intelligence agencies to trace a terrorist network that collects weapons and ammunition. The network is planning to carry out terrorist operations inside and outside Misrata," the source added.

"Twenty people were arrested, including the most prominent leaders of terrorist organizations, namely Al-Sa'di Al-Nufali and Ebreq Mazeq, who are from the eastern city of Ijdabia. They previously participated with IS and Ansar Al-Sharia in terrorist attacks in eastern cities and the crescent oil region," the source revealed.

After IS was defeated in Benghazi and Sirte, the terrorists fled to desert and mountain areas, and some went to Misrata.

The source pointed that the arrested terrorists are suspected of being linked to the recent IS attack on a court complex in Misrata.
