NEW YORK -- The United States reported a rise of over 70,000 cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of infections to 3,641,539, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.
Cases rose by more than 70,000 on Friday after going up by over 77,000 on Thursday, a record increase since the outbreak of the pandemic in the country, it said.

NEW YORK -- Global confirmed COVID-19 cases topped 14 million on Friday, reaching 14,060,402 as of 10:35 p.m. local time (0235 GMT on Saturday), according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
Meanwhile, the death toll worldwide rose to a total of 601,820, the data showed.

NEW DELHI -- India's health ministry Saturday morning said 671 new deaths due to COVID-19, besides fresh 34,884 positive cases, were reported during the past 24 hours across the country, taking the number of deaths to 26,273 and total cases to 1,038,716.
"As on 8:00 a.m. (local time) Saturday, 26,273 deaths related to novel coronavirus have been recorded in the country," reads information released by the ministry.

ULAN BATOR -- Mongolia reported 25 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, taking its total tally to 287, the country's National Center for Communicable Diseases (NCCD) said Saturday.
"A total of 555 tests for COVID-19 were conducted across the country yesterday and 25 of them were positive," the NCCD's head Dulmaa Nyamkhuu told a daily press conference.

WASHINGTON -- U.S. President Donald Trump said Friday he won't issue an order at the national level mandating the use of masks, even as the United States continued to break its single-day coronavirus case record amid a pandemic far from being contained.
Asked by Fox News anchor Chris Wallace if he would consider issuing a national mask mandate to slow the spread of the virus, Trump said: "No, I want people to have a certain freedom and I don't believe in that, no," according to a clip of the Fox News Sunday show, the full version of which will be aired on Sunday.

WELLINGTON -- A new case of COVID-19 was reported in managed isolation in New Zealand, the Ministry of Health said on Saturday.
According the ministry, Saturday's case is a man in his 50s who arrived in New Zealand on July 12 from Central Africa via Tanzania, Doha and Brisbane. The man is now in the quarantine facility in Auckland.

URUMQI -- Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region reported 16 new confirmed domestically transmitted COVID-19 cases on Friday, the regional health commission said Saturday.
The new confirmed cases, all in the regional capital of Urumqi, are from those who were earlier under concentrated medical observation, the commission said.
