Taeyeon of South Korean girl group Girls' Generation was dubbed the top idol solo performer on a yearly music chart, a local chart compiler said on Thursday.

The 27-year-old singer had five songs on the 2016 Top 100 list compiled by Genie Music, the most among idol group members who conducted solo activities. Genie is one of the main music streaming and chart service providers here.

During the Jan. 1-Dec. 20 period, Taeyeon's hits "Rain" (28th), "I" (48th), "Why" (65th), "The Blue Night of Jeju Island" (88th) and "11:11" (95th) ranked on the chart, boasting a wide musical spectrum.

Zico of K-pop boy band Block B had four songs on the list -- "I Am You, You Are Me," "Boys and Girls," "Eureka" and "It Was Love."

Jung Eun-ji of girl group Apink and Park Kyung of Block B tied, each with three songs on the list.

"Solo singers from idol groups fared better in 2016, compared to a year ago when only four songs on the list were by solo idols," said an official at Genie Music. "Online listeners have grown increasingly more attentive to the solo activities of idol group members."
