A freight train was derailed in South Korea due to the estimated mechanical fracturing, local media reported on Thursday.

The train, which was carrying bunker oil, was derailed at around 0:50 a.m. on Thursday near Uiseong in North Gyeongsang Province, some 330 km southeast of Seoul.

It was heading for Manjong Station, around 240 km east of Seoul, from Ulsan in South Gyeongsang Province about 410 km southeast of Seoul.

Among the combined 19 passenger cars, the 12th car alone was derailed due to the estimated damage of the wheel, the transportation ministry said, noting that investigators were looking into causes of the derailment in more detail.

No injury was reported, and the train was expected to be operated normally from around 10 a.m.
