China's Ministry of Education on Thursday issued its first report on engineering in higher education, urging further progress for the sake of graduates' competence.
Eighty percent of those majoring in engineering showed competence and compatibility in their occupations, according to a survey conducted by the ministry, which contacted 260 employers and six influential industry associations.
Some employers stated that there was still room for improvement concerning graduates' applied and operational abilities, the report said.
It noted that engineering graduates needed to improve their international competitiveness to supplement business and management knowledge, and they must enrich their interdisciplinary experience.
