The UK Foreign Office said it had summoned the Chinese Charge d'Affaires in the UK, Yang Xiaoguang, to "make clear Beijing's decision to impose sanctions on British individuals and entities is unwarranted and unacceptable."

China

had earlier announced the sanctions

, which followed the UK's decision earlier this week to impose sanctions.

Discussing the issue earlier today, Yang had said it was up to the UK to mend the relationship between the two sides as the dispute was started by "misinformation" and "lies" on the British side.

The UK sanctions had already prompted the Chinese Foreign Ministry to summon the British ambassador to China to lodge its strong condemnation to that move.
