German carmaker Volkswagen planned to recall 2,897 passengers cars in South Korea for faulty headlights, Seoul's transportation ministry said Thursday.

Audi Volkswagen Korea, the local importer and distributor of Volkswagen, will recall 2,189 Passat 2.0 TDI vehicles produced between Sept. 2, 2011 and Dec. 4, 2012, according to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

The recall will also affect 708 Passat 2.5 MPI cars manufactured between June 2012 and Dec. 4, 2012.

Detected in those models was a problem with electricity connection in low-beam headlights. Another defect was vibrations of the bonnet that may lead to abnormal operations of headlights.

Owners of the faulty vehicles can contact the service centers operated by the Audi Volkswagen Korea from Friday. Those who had their cars repaired in advance can be reimbursed for their costs.
