Kenya on Wednesday reported 810 new COVID-19 infections confirmed in the past 24 hours, taking the countries total number of cases to 79,322.

The number of daily new infections remains high in Kenya judging by standards in the African region, making its caseload one of the fastest rising on the continent.

Of the 810 new cases, 792 were Kenyans while the remaining 18 were foreigners.

The Ministry of Health also reported 8 new fatalities, raising the country’s death toll to 1,417.

Kenya's caseload is the seventh-highest in Africa, only shadowed by numbers posted by South Africa, Morocco, Egypt, Ethiopia, Tunisia and Libya.

Authorities continued to reiterate calls for adherence of health protocols by all Kenyans in efforts to curb further spread of the virus.

President Uhuru Kenyatta warned in a press briefing last month that the government would not hesitate to take stricter measures if Kenyans continues to violate the laid out health regulations.

Some of the restrictions that remain in place include a nationwide nighttime curfew, mandatory wearing of face coverings and ban on large public gatherings.
