The painting, "The Dawn on the Honghu Lake" was created by Yun Qichang in 1957.

It depicts the Honghu armed forces under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, launching a successful attack against counter-revolutionary forces.

In the 1920s, people were oppressed by reactionary rule and local tyrants in Honghu in the southern part of Hubei province.

In 1927, the CPC created the Hunan-Western Hubei Revolutionary Base around Honghu Lake.

The CPC gathered more than 500 local people to form the Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army to lead guerrilla warfare.

Under the leadership of the CPC, Honghu's people created an armed force on the shores of Honghu Lake.

They used the geographical advantages of rivers, lakes and ports to carry out water strikes.

The guerrillas were sometimes concentrated and sometimes dispersed, attacking the heinous local tyrants and evil gentry, and suppressing corrupt officials.

In 1929, the Honghu Revolutionary Base was established with a good mass foundation.

The Hunan-Western Hubei revolutionary base had a significant and far-reaching historical impact on the development of China's revolutionary cause.
