Seoul to push complete denuclearization on Korean Peninsula

The new South Korean government under President Moon Jae-in is pushing for a peaceful regime and the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

The administration included such goals in a five-year plan released on Wednesday. According to the document, the Moon government will draw up comprehensive measures for negotiations with an aim of reaching an agreement for complete denuclearization by 2020.

South Korea offered on Monday to hold rare military talks with the DPRK, the first since Moon's inauguration.

South Korea's Defense Ministry proposed a meeting to be held Friday at the border truce village of Panmunjom. If the meeting takes place, it will mark the first official inter-Korean talks since December 2015.
