A year to Beijing 2020 Winter Olympics: A look at some major venues

Nicknamed the "Ice Ribbon," the newly constructed National Speed Skating Oval in Beijing will hold speed skating events in the upcoming 2022 Winter Games. /VCG

Better known as the "Water Cube" of Beijing 2008, the National Aquatics Center will become the "Ice Cube" of Beijing 2022, where curling will be held. /VCG

Big Air Shougang, the only snow event venue in downtown Beijing, will stage Big Air snowboarding and freestyle skiing. /VCG

Eighty kilometers away in suburban Beijing, the Yanqing competition zone will host alpine skiing, bobsleigh, luge and skeleton in two newly built snow event venues. /VCG

The rest of the snow sports, including snowboard, freestyle skiing, cross-country skiing, ski jumping, Nordic combined and biathlon, will be held in the Zhangjiakou competition zone in neighboring Hebei Province. /VCG
