Leading online broadcasting channel YouTube held an event in Hong Kong on Wednesday to showcase YouTube Partner Program, highlighting the accomplishments of this growing community of creators.

To advocate creativity by local YouTubers, YouTube Hong Kong had launched YouTube Partner Program(YPP) in October 2012, attracting over 19,000 users to join the family in the 11 months to showcase their talents and bring original content to audiences locally and globally.

Marty Chen, YouTube Taiwan and Hong Kong Partner Program Manager, said: “We are excited to see so many young local talents burgoening on YouTube. In just a year, a number of YouTube creators has successfully transformed their interest to playing a significant part in life, or in some cases, their career. With the strong bonding of YouTubers in the local community, we are seeing a great variety of high quality content from Hong Kong. To sustain this momentum, YouTube will continue to provide more support and resources to our partners, so that viewers can enjoy an even wider selection of high-quality video content from Hong Kong.

Launched in 2007 in the U.S., the YouTube Partner Program provides creators with resources and opportunities to improve skills, build fan bases, and help earn money. Since its launch in Hong Kong, eligible local creators can enable any of their original video content for advertising to become partners, earning money through viewership and popularity. The more popular the videos and the channel are, the more revenue is generated by the creators. This mechanism not only provides reward in a substantial way, but also builds a sustainable ecosystem for the online video platforms.

The YouTube Partner Program was established to cultivate an ecosystem of online video creation, community and local culture. Hong Kong people from any walks of life can upload original content and become a partner, bring on creative ideas and engaging with audiences from all over the world. Being some of the savviest in the global partner landscape, local partners are nimble and fast to adopt the Internet and online video trends, and have found success in drawing in audiences with a great variety of content and evolving production techniques. Given the language advantage, some local creators are able to provide international content, impressing both the local and global audiences.

YouTube in Hong Kong is being seen as a relatively mature market; there is a great variety of YouTube content, such as forum Gingerlemoncolaand guitar instructorKeith Sir, etc. These "celebrities" are keen on presenting themselves to the public through TouTube, making themselves known to the netizens.

As the YouTube Partner community continues to expand globally, YouTube united more than one million partners around the world from more than 30 countries, Over 300 channels attain a million subscribers, while thousands of channels are making six figures in USD every year. Last year, the revenue of YPP partners increased by 60% globally, and the revenue of YPP from mobile devices has increased three fold.

The establishment of YouTube Partner Program accumulated a growing audience base that enjoy watching and sharing videos. The platform has become a crucial platform for marketing. Creators are allowed to engage with audiences in an authentic and direct way.
