Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Sunday urged Japan to "put words into action" in improving bilateral ties between the two countries.

Wang made this remark while meeting with Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono, who is visiting Beijing.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Peace and Friendship between the People's Republic of China and Japan, and it is of great significance to the bilateral ties, Wang said.

Noting the positive expressions Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has made in regards to improving China-Japan relations, Wang said he hopes Japan can put the positive expression into action and work with China to bring the bilateral ties back into a normal path of development.

Kono is on an official visit to China from Jan. 27 to 28.
