In order to help Peru fight the COVID-19 pandemic, the Chinese government has decided to send a medical team to Peru at the request of the Peruvian government and in consideration of its current needs, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian announced on Friday.

China's second medical team to Latin America, organized by the National Health Commission and selected by Guangdong Provincial Health Commission, left for Peru in the early morning of May 22, Zhao added.

The Chinese medical team will assist Peru in further improving its anti-epidemic measures, making every effort to improve the level of patient treatment, contributing to Peru's early victory over the epidemic and writing a new chapter of China-Peru traditional friendship. China recently sent a medical team to Venezuela.

Zhao said China will support Latin American and Caribbean countries in fighting the epidemic by sharing anti-epidemic experiences, diagnosis and treatment, providing epidemic prevention materials and assisting in commercial procurement.
