Indonesian counter-terror squad arrest 3 suspects

The Indonesian counter-terrorism squad Densus 88 on Tuesday reportedly arrested two suspected terrorists in the second largest city in East Java.

"We have detained them at our station," said Adjunct Senior Commissioner Yudo Nugroho, chief of the Malang City Police, quoted by Indonesian news portal Kompas.com.

Officers apprehended the two male suspects, identified by their initials KW and S, on Tuesday morning local time at a historical graveyard where they were believed to have hidden for about a week.

The graveyard is located in a state-owned forest of Mount Semeru's hillside, and is far from residential areas.

According to Yudo, the two men are not originally from Malang, but believed to have connections with a local terrorist network led by Indonesia's notorious terrorist fugitive Santoso, which is said to have played a role in the attacks in the country's capital last month.

Police also believed that the two men were connected to the five suspected terrorists who were arrested on Feb. 19 also in Malang, according to Yudo.
