China has yet again proved to be a true friend of Pakistan. In wake of the current outbreak of COVID-19, China has provided emergency assistance to Pakistan for prevention and control, including 12,000 test kits, 300,000 masks, 10,000 protective suits as well as 4 million US dollars to build hospitals.

When the COVID-19 outbreak began in China, goodwill offers of support and medical supplies from foreign countries, international organizations and people around the world poured in to help the country combat the pandemic.

Earlier, Pakistan, as the pandemic reached its peak in China, had extended its full support to the ‘Iron Brother’ by allocating 300,000 medical masks, 800 hazmat suits and 6,800 pairs of gloves from the stocks of public hospitals around the nation and transported the aid to China.

Pakistan also exported over 300,000 pieces of Chloroquine Phosphate tablets to China that is now being considered a solution to control the Coronavirus, an article by China Economic Net reported. US President Donald Trump also mentioned the same during his press encounter a day before.

As the cases of the novel coronavirus disease are trending downward in China, other countries now have a major battle on their hands as according to the World Health Organization (WHO), over 180 countries have close to three hundred thousand confirmed cases of COVID-19, with over 11 thousand deaths, over four thousand alone in Italy.

It may appropriate to mention that China has always been following the philosophy of collective well-being which is also evident from its Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Now China is returning the favor and is joining hands with the world to fight the deadly disease by donating medical supplies as well as sharing information and experience, among others.

Chinese doctors are already providing services in Italy, the worst-hit country in the world so far, and its leadership has extended its support to other countries including Iran and Spain.

Beijing has provided similar assistance to Iran and Iraq to contain the spread of the respiratory virus while President Xi Jinping in a phone conversation with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez offered his help to contain the deadly pandemic.

President Dr Arif Alvi’s visit to China at a time when many countries around the world are trying to cope with the spread of the novel coronavirus indicated that the long-held friendship between the two countries cannot be held back by the pandemic as reportedly just one article about Alvi’s visit won the attention of more than 370,000 netizens with over 6,000 likes and 1,000 comments – an unusual phenomenon.

Now, as the coronavirus outbreak worsens across Pakistan and the government has announced the closure of all public dealing offices in the Islamabad while provinces also moving towards lock down the country cannot fight out the pandemic alone.

Pakistan needs to learn from the Chinese experience to defeat the Covid-19 as the time-tested friend has sent medical supplies as well as 200 hundred doctors to monitor the anti-Covid-19 operations in Pakistan.

The Chinese doctors besides sharing their experiences with Pakistani doctors would monitor anti-coronavirus operations here and look after the health of persons related to China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

In another goodwill gesture, Huawei Pakistan has donated a video conference system worth about 0.3 million US dollars to the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination of Pakistan to help the country fight against COVID-19 that was fully acknowledged by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health Zafar Mirza.

The technological structure of the system is a multi-scenario intelligent collaboration solution based on 4K video technologies and the system can be applied in several situations such as epidemic prevention and control command, remote consultation and remote monitoring.

Hopefully, the iron brothers through joint efforts and unity will defeat the COVID-19 that has caused alarms all over the world.
