APD | Angkor Entrance Pass Sales Decrease in first Half

PHNOM PENH, July 3 (APD) -- Cambodia earned $55.7 million in revenue from the sale of tickets at Angkor archaeological park in the first half of 2019, a 9 percent decrease compared to the same period last year, according to figures from Angkor Enterprises.

From January to June this year, 1,244,443 foreign tourists bought the entrance passes, an 8 percent compared to the figures recorded in the first half of 2018. According the data, Chinese tourists top in the foreign tourists visit Siem Reap in the first six months, with about 600,000 followed by Korean and American tourists.

Official with Siem Reap Provincial Tourism Department, said that the new destinations in the country may take inflow of tourists visit Siem Reap.

“Officials are working to determine the reasons caused the decrease of number of tourists visit in Siem Reap whether it related to the internal factor or to external factors,” Mr Sengkak said. “At the same time, we work to establish new tourism products and strengthen the quality of tourism service to serve tourists.”

There are many potential tourism destinations like in Preah Sihanoukville province, it may distribute in causing the number of tourists in Siem Reap down, Mr Sengkak said.

A one-day ticket now costs $37, up from $20 previously, while the three-day ticket went from $40 to $60. A week-long pass now costs $72, up from $60.

A $2 donation is included in every ticket sale and is used to provide treatment for Cambodian children in need of medical attention at the Kantha Bopha Children’s Hospital.

As by June, $2.4 million of total revenue were donated to the Kantha Bopha Children’s Hospital.

Last year, Cambodia received 6.2 million of international holiday makers, up 11 percent. By this year, 7 million is expected to visit Cambodia.
