Christian Dior Fall 2017

Blue was the warmest—and most prominent—color at Maria Grazia Chiuri’s second Dior show today. The decision to render Dior’s Fall 2017 collection primarily in shades of blue was inspired by a quote by Monsieur Christian Dior in theThe Little Dictionary of Fashion. “Among all colors, navy blue is the only one which can ever compete with black, it has all the same qualities.” On the runway today, that meant plenty of dark-wash denim—including overalls!—navy checks, wools, and sequins, and a finale of the sort of sheer, shimmering gowns Chiuri loves to create. The most obvious style note from the show other than the rich blue tones, were the leather berets that accompanied every look. Even Rihanna couldn’t help but sport one in the front row.
