Israeli war jets struck early on Wednesday morning two military posts that belong to Islamic Hamas movement in southern Gaza Strip of Khan Younis and south of Gaza City, security sources and paramedics in Gaza said.

The airstrikes caused damages to the two posts but no injuries were reported, according to the sources.

The Israeli airstrikes on Hamas posts were a retaliation to last night's rockets firing from Gaza into southern Israel, according to an Israeli army spokesman.

Tension has been escalating in Gaza and the West Bank between Israel and the Palestinians since the declaration of U.S. President Donald Trump last week that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel.

Six Palestinians were killed and more than 1,500 injured in the wave of tension that dominated the Palestinian territories after Trump's announcement.

Meanwhile, Hamas movement said Wednesday that the Israeli security forces arrested 35 Hamas leaders all over the West Bank, including Hassan Yousef and x-Hamas prisoners, who were released in the last Egyptian-brokered swap deal reached between Israel and the movement in 2011.
