China helps Pakistan’s Gwadar Port host first International exhibition

ISLAMABAD, Jan. 24 (APD) - China Overseas Ports Holding Company in collaboration local is all set to organize the first ever international exhibition in Gwadar Free Zone of Pakistan under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor later this month, official media reported.

According to the reports, China Overseas Ports Holding Company (COPHC) and Gwadar Port Authority (GPA) will jointly host the two-day event to tell the world about potentials of Gwadar, Pakistan’s southwest deepwater port being developed under the China-funded China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, a flagship project of China’s Belt and Road initiative.

The first-ever international exhibition will be held in the Gwadar Free Zone from Jan. 29 to Jan. 30, where the first phase of the Gwadar Free Zone will also be inaugurated.

The expo will be a mega event in the history of Pakistani province Balochistan where the port is located, and the event would help the exhibitors and the participants to understand the real potential of Gwadar port.

Over 200 companies from both Pakistan and China in various sectors, including trading, services, automotive, food processing, shipping, logistics and warehousing, light-end assembly and re-cycling, light manufacturing and assembly, value added industries, shipping lines, fish and seafood processing, logistics, warehousing and transportation, fruits and vegetable processing, import and export, transhipment and transit, minerals processing, garments and textile, medical consumables, marble, printing and packaging, light vehicles manufacturing, financial institutions, iron and steel, heavy metal scrap recycling, and oil and gas processing will participate in the exhibition.

Chairman China Overseas Ports Holding Company Zhang Baozhong said in a video message that COPHC and GPA are initiating series of events by organizing the first International Exhibition ‘GWADAR EXPO 2018’ in Gwadar Free Zone.

Zhang said the event will be proved to be a milestone for the mega project of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

More than 3,000 exhibitors and over 10,000 visitors applied to participate in the exhibition, but due to flight and accommodation limits, around 200 exhibitors and 5,000 visitors were allowed to participate in the event, the Chinese official said in his message.

“I hope that all the visitors will take an advantage of this event to understand the development plan of Gwadar. The event will boost economic cooperation not only between Pakistan and China but also with Iran, Afghanistan and the Middle East,” said Zhang.

Earlier on Tuesday, the higher officials from Pakistan and China held a series of important meetings in Islamabad about the CPEC where both sides expressed satisfaction over preparation for first Gwadar Expo and inauguration of Gwadar Free Zone (Phase-1) and said that the expo has attracted the huge interest of the local and international investors.
