According to a statement released by Mexico’s National Migration Institute (INM) on Wednesday, around 300 Indian nationals have been deported to New Delhi from Mexico.

The concerned 310 men and 1 woman were staying in Mexico illegally and were sent back on a chartered plane with federal immigration agents and Mexico’s National Guard.

Deportation of this scale has not been done before from Mexico to New Delhi. In the statement INM said, “It is unprecedented in INM’s history - in either form or the number of people - for a transatlantic air transport like the one carried out on this day.”

According to experts, people often enter Mexico with the hope of entering the US. The deportation was a consequence of the US and Mexico entering a deal where the latter promised to reduce migration to the US from Mexico in return of ease in tariffs.

The people staying illegally in Mexico were in different provinces of the country. This deportation is being considered unprecedented in scale.
