Police have found stolen opals worth more than 4 million AU dollars (3.6 million U.S. dollars) at a property in the Gold Coast hinterland in Australia, local media reported on Wednesday.

Police seized the gems on Monday at the Guanaba residence in Queensland, a year after receiving reports that the opals had been stolen, according to the Australian Associated Press (AAP).

Police also found stolen cars and other property at the address, local media reports said.

"There were a range of opals that were cut and uncut," a police spokeswoman told AAP.

"They were all various sizes."

Police declined to say who reported the opals stolen, but media reports have said the gems belonged to Queensland property tycoon John Fish.
