The fourth day of the trial of former police officer Derek Chauvin took place in Minneapolis, Minnesota Thursday.
Multiple witnesses were called, including retired Sgt. David Pleoger of the Minneapolis Police Department, who testified about a phone call he had with Chauvin after the former officer kneeled on George Floyd’s neck.
Paramedic Derek Smith testified, saying “I walked up to the individual, noticed he wasn’t moving. I didn’t see any chest rise or fall on this individual” and that “the officers were still on him when I approached.”
Jeremy Norton, Captain of the Minneapolis Fire Department, testified about what he saw when entering an ambulance with George Floyd, saying “he was an unresponsive body on a cot.”
Courteney Ross, the girlfriend of George Floyd, testified that Floyd tested positive for COVID-19 in late March, that they both struggled with opioid addiction, and that he was a “momma’s boy.”
