With a strong Daba-Mountain accent, Qu Desheng, the head of poverty alleviation team in a village of southwest China’s Sichuan Province, enthusiastically promotes local agricultural products to everyone he meets.
At the end of 2015, Qu Desheng came to Daping Village of Longquan Tujia Township, Xuanhan County, which is located deep in the Daba Mountains, on the easternmost provincial border of Sichuan Province. It used to be one of the remotest and poorest villages in Xuanhan County. He uses professional skills to help the villagers develop the farming industry. Papaya planting brings wealth to the villagers and becomes one of the main businesses of the village.
Now, the roads have been paved, the local internet network has been built, and the house has been redecorated. Great changes have taken place in Daping Village.
Since 2015, China has appointed young and excellent Party members or former cadres from government departments, organizations and enterprises to help with poverty alleviation of villages -- part of the country's efforts to eliminate absolute poverty by 2020. They are called "the first Party secretaries."
