The Israeli military confirmed opening fire on Sunday when a cell attempted to infiltrate Israel from its northern border with Lebanon, leaving a Lebanese soldier injured, according to a statement.

In the statement, the IDF (Israel Defense Force) said troops on a routine patrol identified the cell crossing the Israeli-Lebanese border and trying to infiltrate into Israeli territory.

"The force opened fire towards the suspects and identified a hit. The suspects fled back into Lebanon," the statement said, adding that the circumstances of the incident were being reviewed.

Earlier, Lebanese media reported that a Lebanese soldier was wounded by Israeli gunfire near Kfar Shouba and that Lebanese forces returned fire.

Al-Manar TV, affiliated with Hezbollah, reported that an Israeli unit attempted to enter Lebanese territory in the Shebaa Farms area.

Tensions has been daily occurrences between Israelis and Lebanese along the Blue Line that is the ceasefire line draw by the UN in 2000, after Israel withdrew its troops from south Lebanon, ending the 22-year occupation there. Enditem
