Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Iran is ready to re-embrace its commitments under the 2015 nuclear deal if the Europeans adhere to their vows to help Iran gain economic benefits under the pact, state TV reported on Saturday.

Following the U.S. withdrawal from the nuclear deal in May 2018, Iran has been steadily dropping its commitments under the accord. It announced the finanal step to abandon its commitments in January.

"We have said that we are prepared to slow down or reverse these measures commensurate with what Europe does," Zarif was quoted as saying.

The Iranian foreign minister stressed Iran's "right" to reap the economic benefits of the nuclear deal, saying that "we're not talking about charity. We're talking about Iranian rights and the rights of the Iranian people to receive the economic benefits."

"We have received irreversible or irreparable harm because of U.S. sanctions, but nevertheless, we will reverse the steps that we have taken provided that Europe takes steps that are meaningful," he noted.
