At least 33 were killed and dozens more injured following a twin car bomb attack in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi on Tuesday night, Reuters reported, citing local officials.

The first explosion struck when an explosives-rigged vehicle blew up in front of a mosque in the city's central Al Salmani district, followed by a second car explosion 30 minutes later in the same area.

The victims include both military personnel and civilians, officials said.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.

Libya has been rocked by chaos since a 2011 uprising that toppled and killed dictator Muammar Gaddafi, with two rival authorities and multiple militias vying for control of the oil-rich country.
