NEW DELHI, Feb.15 (APD) -- A car driven by a suicide bomber rammed a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) bus claiming the life of 44 CRPF soldiers in the province of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.

The attack is being called the deadliest in the province in the past three decades of insurgency. Terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad, has claimed responsibility for the attack, which took place in Pulwama district, 30 kilometers from Srinagar in Lethpora.

According to Press Trust of India, Jaish said a local militant carried out the suicide bombing. The terrorist was identified as Adil Ahmad Dar of Pulwama and had joined the Jaish in 2018.

In a statement Jaish claimed that the vehicle that exploded was carrying 350 kilogram of explosives.

Meanwhile, in a statement Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack. He said, “Attack on CRPF personnel in Pulwama is despicable. I strongly condemn this dastardly attack,”

“Sacrifices of our brave security personnel shall not go in vain. The entire nation stands shoulder to shoulder with the families of the brave martyrs. May the injured recover quickly,” he further said.

Through Twitter Congress president Rahul Gandhi said, “I’m deeply disturbed by the cowardly attack on a CRPF convoy in which many of our brave CRPF men have been martyred and a large number wounded, some critically.”

According to experts the attack would incite strong reaction from the ruling Bharatiya Janta Party.

Currently, national security adviser Ajit Doval is monitoring the situation and is being briefed by senior CRPF officials.

Former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah said, “I condemn this attack in the strongest possible terms. My prayers for the injured condolences to the families of the bereaved.”
