Imitation jewelry gains popularity among Pakistani brides

ISLAMABAD, Mar. 19 (APD) – It’s a wedding of a Pakistani girl but her friends and she does not wear jewelry, it is an impossible thing. There is a saying that “a Pakistani girl can afford not to have a groom on her marriage, but not compromise on jewelry.”

As Jewelry plays an important role in enhancing the beauty of the blushing bride on weddings, the trend of imitation jewelry gaining popularity and becoming more attractive for Pakistani brides with a variety of designs and colors.

According to a report released on Sunday, consumer liking for imitation and fashion jewelry is growing at a quick pace within Pakistan's gem and jewelry market, leading to many long-standing gold jewelry retailers including such imitation jewelry into their portfolio.

Female customers expressed that brides want attractive and affordable jewelry on their wedding events with the current trends in fashion, adding that even if gold prices decrease, artificial jewelry will continue to attract good demand.

Wedding dress and jewelry accessories fulfill the preparation of a bridal.

“In traditional and modern fashion there are lots of differences. There are lots of jewelry options for a bridal in modern days,” a customer said.

A shopkeeper Naseer Joyia said, "The core factor behind the rise of artificial jewelry is a reduction in the purchasing power of the customers, who cannot afford to buy gold."

It is cheap, safe and in fashion, and women feel secure to wear artificial jewelry instead of gold ornaments, said the shopkeeper.

Crafting of artificial jewelry has become an industry as thousands of people are earning their livelihood from this sector.

Increase in the demand for artificial jewelry has also resulted in the rise in its prices, but ladies look crazy about it.

Mehwish Ali, shopping for her wedding scheduled later this year, said she would buy an artificial set for her marriage day and a small necklace or locket set of gold for another function.

Besides, there are varieties even in artificial jewelry and usually imported sets are more expensive than local ones.

Amina Saeed a makeup artist said that “Brides from rich families now love to wear artificial jewelry.

As the gold prices in the national and international market have increased, people have shifted their choice towards buying artificial jewelry

"Incidents of ornaments snatching has shifted people interest to buy artificial jewelry”, she added.

Local gold jewelers admitted to having a drop in their business as the imitation jewelry is getting fame among ladies.
