The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) on Tuesday confirmed the death of a Chinese national who was shot dead by unknown assailants in Karachi, southeast Pakistan, and called for a thorough investigation by local police.

Police identified the victim as 46-year-old Chen Zhu, managing director of a shipping company in Karachi, on Monday. The suspects managed to flee the crime scene.

China condemns any violence against Chinese nationals and will pay close attention to the investigation, said MOFA spokesman Geng Shuang at a regular press conference.
