APD | India to create new air defence command

New Delhi, Jan. 4 (APD) - General Bipin Rawat, India’s Chief of Defence Staff recently asked the headquarters of Integrated Defence Staff (IDS) to draft a proposal on the creation of a new Air Defence command.

According to the defense ministry, the proposal would be ready before June 30, 2020.

The aim of the new addition is to, “enhance military synergy and optimally utilize the resources of the armed forces.”

The new air defense command would possess air defense resources of the three services.

Rawat, by virtue of his position, is the sole significant adviser to the defense minister.

On the issue, the defense ministry spokesperson said, “ General Rawat also set out priorities for the execution of synergy by June 30, and December 31, 2020, for different priorities.”

“Some of the areas identified for jointness and synergy include the creation of common logistics support pools in stations where two or more services have their presence,” he further informed.

A six-member panel has also been formed to recommend ways to enhance joint work, partnership and cooperation, among the three services.
