Indonesian police launched on Wednesday a mobile application to encourage people to report suspected terrorist-linked activities in their neighborhood.

The application, called "Stop Terrorism," features direct transmission of information to the police's information center, said application developer Adjie Pratama.

"Through the application, the users can directly report terror activities or if they suspect the presence of terrorists in their neighborhood," Adjie said, adding that the application can be freely downloaded to smartphones, available in Google Playstore and Amazon Store.

Users would be obliged to fill the forms in each of their report the ID registration number, driving license number and cellphone number, the developer said.

The other features of the application include emergency phone numbers, direct link to social media such as Twitter, discussion forum between users and authorized apparatus related to terrorism issues and media reports about terrorism.

Indonesia witnessed terror attacks in opened public area in broad daytime earlier this month, when terrorists blew themselves off after shootout with police in a landmark crossroad at the heart of the Indonesian capital city, leaving eight people dead, including the terrorists, police and civilians, and 26 others injured.

In 2002, explosions by terrorists killed 202 foreigners and locals in the tourist resort of Bali. A series of bombings targeting "Western objects" in Jakarta such as the Australian embassy, JW Marriott and Ritz Carlton hotels in 2003, 2004 and 2009 claimed the lives of tens of foreigners and local residents.
