Iran urges int'l pressure on U.S. to lift sanctions amid COVID-19 outbreak

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Wednesday called for international pressure on the United States to lift its sanctions against Iran, official IRNA news agency reported.

Zarif said that the U.S. "illegal, inhuman and unilateral sanctions against Iran" should be removed as the country is struggling to stem COVID-19.

The Iranian foreign minister made the remarks on a phone conversation with his Indonesian counterpart Retno Marsudi.

The two also discussed the latest developments about the COVID-19 outbreak in the world.

Iran's Ministry of Health and Medical Education on Wednesday announced the deaths of 1,135 people out of 17,361 infections with the COVID-19.
