Dujiangyan city establishes high-end think tank

The city government of Dujiangyan in Southwest China's Sichuan province established an institution to serve the city's development on July 16.

The Dujiangyan Qingchengshan Institution, located at the foot of Mount Qingcheng, will carry out research on the development strategy and public policy of Dujiangyan.

It will support Dujiangyan in deepening international exchanges and dialogues, domestic cooperation and development, and cultural heritage to enhance the city's influence and achieve high-quality economic and social development, said local officials.

Tang Jiqiang, a professor at Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, was hired as the first dean of the Dujiangyan Qingchengshan Institute.

The institute will recruit a number of well-known experts and scholars from home and abroad, select a group of high-level researchers, and innovatively carry out research work by combining resident research and joint research.

"We are committed to building the institute into a professional, high-standard, and distinctive high-end think tank that is both domestically and internationally renowned and matches the global influence of Dujiangyan and Mount Qingcheng," officials said.

Dujiangyan is home to three world heritage items, namely World Cultural Heritage, World Natural Heritage, and World Heritage Irrigation Structure (WHIS).

The Dujiangyan Irrigation System, together with nearby Mount Qingcheng, was listed as a World Cultural Heritage site in 2000. In 2006, Dujiangyan was listed as a World Natural Heritage site as a corridor region of the giant panda habitat. In 2018, the Dujiangyan Irrigation System was recognized as a World Heritage Irrigation Structure site by the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage.
