The United States and the United Kingdom are still the top choices for Chinese students who seek overseas education. This is despite rising uncertainty after both Brexit and Donald Trump taking office in the US, according to a recent survey.

The survey was jointly conducted by Vision Overseas Consulting Co. and Kantar Millward Brown. It covered 6,217 students ranging from middle school, high school, undergraduate, and graduate across 40 Chinese cities.

50 percent of the participants chose the US as their most ideal overseas study destination, with the UK coming in second. Both have occupied the same spots for the past three years consecutively, China Daily reported.

China is currently the largest source of international students in the US. Statistics from the Institute of International Education showed that during the 2015/2016 academic year, more than 328,000 Chinese students were studying in US; nearly one third of the country's total number of international students.

Some of Trump's policies, such as the travel ban, are thought to have influenced some international students. A report based on a survey by five US higher education associations in February said that one fourth of universities saw undergraduate application from China decline for the 2017 term, and 32 percent had fewer graduate applications.
