China’s smartphone maker Xiaomi released its new Mi A1 phone on Tuesday in New Delhi, India.

The smartphone is a flagship phone of the Android One initiative introduced three years ago by Google. With a focus on the Indian market, the initiative aims to offer low-cost smartphones to developing countries.

Xiaomi's new Android One phone has a 5.5-inch 1080p screen and a metal body.

According to the company, the phone is equipped with a dual-camera system with a 12MP Telephoto lens and 12MP Wide Angle lens that “is similar to iPhone 7 Plus”. It also runs stock Android, not MIUI layer, Xiaomi’s own operating system.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor also makes Mi A1 more powerful than most of its Android One competition which run on slower Snapdragon 400-series chips.

Mi A1 is not a Xiaomi original creation. It is said to be the international version of Mi 5X for the Chinese mainland, and will soon be introduced to more than 30 other countries and regions including Russia, Indonesia, Singapore, Mexico and China’s Hong Kong.

India is a big market for Xiaomi. The company ranked second in India’s smartphone market last quarter, according to International Data Corporation. Its two top selling phones in India, Redmi Note 4 and Redmi 4, helped its sales grow 328 percent year on year.

The new Mi A1 phone is priced at 14,999 Indian Rupees or roughly 235 US dollars.
