MANILA, Sep.7 (APD) – An improvised explosive device believed to have come from extortionists injured at least eight people in Isulan in Sultan Kudarat province at 7:00 A.M. today.

In a telephone interview with Lt. General Cirilito E. Sobejana, Western Mindanao Command chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, he said military and police elements are investigating the incident which took place in front of a local bakeshop.

“The injured are being attended to at hospitals in Sultan Kudarat province,” General Sobejana said. He added the ones responsible may be identified with the help of footages derived from various close circuit television cameras in the area.

Media reports said the extortionists have been demanding money from the local government for “protection” from violent incidents.

Both the military and police have increased patrol in the area.
