The 220kV Xekaman1-Pleiku2 transmission line in Vietnam's territory, which transmits electricity from Laos to Vietnam, has been completed, Vietnam's National Power Transmission Corporation (EVN NPT) said Wednesday.

With the transmission line, Vietnam's southern region will receive hydroelectricity imported from Laos' Xekaman 1, Xekaman San-Xay and Xekong 3 power plants, the EVN NPT said on its website on Wednesday.

The 119.5-km transmission line starts from the border area with Laos and runs through Vietnam's Central Highlands Kon Tum and Gia Lai provinces.

This is of great significance in Vietnam's power supply, contributing to secure sustainable energy development, the EVN NPT said.

Vietnam has imported electricity from China. During 2011-2015 period, Vietnam bought some 14.7 billion kWh of electricity from China.

The country sets to buy some 1.2 billion kWh of electricity from China in 2016.
