Official: District Councils should serve local communities

The amendments will bring District Councils back on track to play their due role of serving local communities, said Deng Zhonghua, deputy director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council.

Deng made the remarks in an interview with the media, explaining the purposes and concerns surrounding the amendments. The Standing Committee of the 13th National People's Congress, China's top legislature, on Tuesday passed amendments to Annex I and Annex II to the Basic Law of the HKSAR.
