U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday refused to say whether he will visit the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) separating the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and South Korea during his upcoming Asia tour next month.
"Well, I'd rather not say, but you'll be surprised," Trump told reporters at the White House when asked if he will visit the heavily guarded strip of land.
Trump's remarks came two days after a senior White House official said that the U.S. president is "most likely to visit" Camp Humphreys, a military base about 60 km south of Seoul, capital of South Korea, during his visit to South Korea.
The time limit may not permit Trump to do both, the official said on Monday.
Trump's travel to Asia is slated for Nov. 3 to Nov. 14. It will be his first trip to the region since becoming president, during which he will attend a meeting of leaders of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) economies in Vietnam. He will also join gatherings of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in the Philippines.
