Update: Iran arrests "some" over Ukrainian plane crash: spokesman

Iran's Judiciary spokesman said here Tuesday that the Islamic republic has arrested some people related to the crash of a recent Ukrainian passenger plane over Tehran's sky, official IRNA news agency reported.

"So far, comprehensive investigations have been carried out from the relevant people, and every day until late night, the expert teams of the Judiciary are busy interrogating, investigating and collecting documents," Gholamhossein Esmaili made the remarks at a press conference.

He said that the black box of the plane is sent to France to be decoded. In reading the data on the black box, Iranian and Ukrainian experts will participate.

The data to be extracted from the black box will help "significantly" to the investigation process, he said.

He noted that "the Judiciary is after unearthing the fact and practicing justice."

On Wednesday, Iran shot down a Ukrainian Boeing 737-800 passenger plane wherein 176 people were killed. The armed forces said that the plane was brought down due to "human error."
