Bangladesh, Malaysia grant visa waiver for diplomatic, official passport holders

An agreement between Bangladesh and Malaysia on visa waiver for diplomatic and official passport holders came into effect Thursday, Banglaseh's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

"Citizens of one country having in possession of valid diplomatic or official passports may enter other country without a visa and stay for a period not exceeding 30 days," the ministry said in a statement.

The agreement was signed on Dec. 3, 2014, in Putrajaya during the visit of Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to Malaysia.

According to the statement, this visa waiver program will be in force for a period of five years from the date of enforcing.

"Thereafter, it shall be automatically extended for a further period of five years."

According to the statement, both Bangladesh and Malaysia completed all formalities of ratification of the deal by September 2015.

It said the visa waiver program will facilitate increased contact between political and functional levels of Bangladesh and Malaysia and thereby help further enhancing bilateral relations.
