Prince Albert II, head of state of Monaco, has tested positive for COVID-19, but there is no concern for his health, Prince's Palace of Monaco announced on Thursday.

Local media said he was the first head of state infected with coronavirus.

"Prince Albert, who has been tested in the beginning of this week, is COVID positive," said the palace in a statement.

"His health situation raises no concern," it added. "He continues to work from home."

The statement also urged all people in Monaco to strictly respect the confinement and cut to minimum their contact with others.

In a televised address to the nation on Tuesday evening, Prince Albert II said Monaco was in its worst health crisis and announced national confinement.
