Wang Yi: We need to act in the spirit of multilateralism

Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi called for more efforts to jointly promote multilateralism, oppose acts of unilateralism, in a bid to provide more stability and inject positive energy into the world.

Wang made the remarks on Friday while holding a video conference with his German counterpart Heiko Maas over the plan for the development of the China-Germany, China-EU relations in the next phrase.

Echoing Wang's stance, Mass committed to uphold multilateralism and promise to increase financial support for the World Health Organization (WHO).

During their talks, both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in vaccine research and development for COVID-19 control and treatment.

Noted that China and Germany have taken the lead in establishing a "fast track" arrangement for travelers on essential and urgent businesses, the ministers reached consensus on resuming practical cooperation as quickly as possible to safeguard the stability of global industrial and supply chains.

On China-EU ties, Wang pointed out that China and the EU must remain each other's cooperative partners and not become systemic rivals.

We expect the China-EU ties could be elevated to a higher level during Germany's presidency in the EU, Wang stressed.
