Electricity of Vietnam's Southern Power Corporation (EVN SPC) planned to install more power projects and power grids in the country's 21 southern provinces and cities in 2014.
According to Nguyen Thanh Duy, director general of EVN SPC, the company will build a third power line with a voltage of 500 kilovolt to connect central and southern Vietnam.
It will also build several power stations in the south, which now relies heavily on power transferred from the northern and central regions.
From early 2014, EVN SPC will put into operation the thermal power stations of Vinh Tan and Vung Ang 1 (with installed capacity of 600 megawatt), and hydro-power station of Dak Ring (62.5 megawatt) and Nam Na 2 (22 megawatt), the EVN SPC official was quoted by local daily Vietnam News as saying on Monday.
In addition, the undersea cable that connects Ha Tien town of southern Kien Giang province with Phu Quoc Island will be on stream from Jan. 1, 2014 with a voltage of 110 kilovolt. The 56 km long cable costs 2.34 trillion VND (110.82 million U.S. dollars).
The EVN SPC's projects in the south will help provide power to more than 6.2 million EVN customers and reduce power shortage in the region.
