Vietnam targets life expectancy of 75 years by 2030

Vietnam's communist authorities are targeting a rise in life expectancy to 75 years by 2030 from the current 73.4 years.

This forecast is contained in a resolution issued by the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee.

The country's General Department of Population and Family Planning also said on Wednesday that Vietnamese are expected to achieve, on average, at least 68 years of healthy life by 2030.

– the composite index of lifespan, education, and per capita income indicators – in the top four of Southeast Asian countries by then.

Average height of Vietnamese people aged 18 is expected to increase to 168.5 centimeters for males and 157.5 for females by that year from 164.4 centimeters and 153.4 centimeters, respectively, in early 2016, according to the National Institute of Nutrition.

The country will seek to maintain its young population structure with ratios of people aged under 15 and 65 or older of 22 percent and 11 percent, respectively, by 2030.

Vietnam's total population is expected to grow to 104 million by 2030 from 92.7 million predicted by the end of 2016, with urban population accounting for over 45 percent, according to the resolution.
