Zhanjiang Port, the first world-class deep-water harbor in south China, has a capacity of 400,000 deadweight tonnes. After it opened in 1956, the port became the main freight transportation center for central and western China.

The port provides the shortest route for ships to Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe and Oceania. It also has the best loading and unloading conditions for crude oil and iron ore.
