Nigerian police say they have arrested two suspected masterminds of the Oct. 2 bombings that hit two satellite towns of the capital Abuja.

The unnamed male suspects, aged 25 and 27 respectively, were arrested when attempting to carry out another terror attack in Abuja, Police Chief Solomon Arase said Tuesday.

Police recovered 12 explosives concealed in soft-drink cans and 28 pieces of electric detonators from the suspects, he added.

At least 18 people were killed and 41 others injured in the two bombings in Nyanya and Kuje towns two weeks ago.

The militant group Boko Haram claimed responsibility for the attacks.

The group, fighting against the government to create an Islamic state, has carried out waves of bombings.

It has killed more than 13,000 and abducted hundreds since launching its insurgency in 2009. Enditem
