APD | Car sales in the Philippines decline 5.7% in November 2018

MANILA, Dec. 19 (APD) – Car and truck sales went down as it posted a month-on-month negative growth of 5.7% in November selling 31,258 units last month compared with 33,150 units in October 2018.

According to a joint report from the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) and the Truck Manufacturers Association, the industry remains positive with the result.

Atty. Rommel Gutierrez, CAMPI President said they remain confident the industry will continue to recover as the year ends.

By category, the Passenger Car segment sales went down by 2.6% with 9,197 units in November from 9,444 units in October. The Commercial Vehicle segment also declines by 6.9% with 22,061 units from 23,706 units in the previous month.

The Asian Utility Vehicle (Category 1) posted a negative growth of 7.8%, selling 3,142 units from 3,409 units in October.

Meanwhile, the Light Commercial Vehicle (Category II) was also down by 6.9% with 17,594 units from 18,896 units. Light Trucks (Category III) posted an increase of 4.4% with 753 units from 721 units.

Trucks and Buses (Category IV) recorded the highest decline among all segments by 22.2% with 425 units from 546 units as Trucks and Buses (Category V) also grew by 9.7% with 147 units from 134 units in October.

Aggregate sales for the first 11 months of the year (Year-To-Date) retracted by 14.4% with 325,465 units compared with 380,465 units for the same period a year ago.

As far as market share is concerned, Toyota Motor Philippines remains on top with 42.5% market share followed by Mitsubishi Motor Philippines Corp., with 19% while Nissan Philippines, Inc. came it third with 9.7%. Ford Motor Company Philippines, Inc. had 6.6% while Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. had 6.5% market share.
